Biomass integrated gasification combined cycle (BIGCC) is the integration of biomass gasifier, gas turbine cycle, and steam turbine cycle, and its implementation for power generation has three fold benefits waste minimization, clean power, and a reduction of load on fossil fuel power grid. Gasification of biomass which requires minimum fuel processing is a most promising way of energy conversion technology because it provides power at higher efficiency and lower emissions contrary to its direct combustion which has the problem of power generation at lower efficiency and higher emissions. Biomass which ranks fourth as a source of energy and is abundantly available due to agricultural waste and municipal waste provides a domain for green power.
To meet out the challenges of increase in energy demand due to sheer growth in population of the world, commercialization of renewable sources of energy for power generation has become a necessity.
